Just as we were leaving Florence and heading to Perugia, the signal for engine oil started to flash. We drove to a nearby station, called Avis call centre (which took an annoyingly long time - despite selecting an English speaking operator, we were directed to an Italian speaking operator twice) and we were told to buy some oil, top the car up, and claim for the price of the oil when we got to Rome. We did as we were told and continued our journey to Perugia. How does a Rental car company not service a car regularly? This small hiccup ended up being a huge drama when we got to Rome. I will continue this story when I blog about good old Rome.
I was very excited about Perugia. Perugia is the main city of the Umbrian region and is reknown for having the best food in all of Italy. We were not disappointed. We had our first taste of Umbrian cuisine when we stopped at Lake Trasimeno for lunch. This lake is 128 km square and is only slightly smaller than Lake Como and is only about 20km from Perugia. We went to a lakeside town called Passignano sul Trasimeno with a beautiful lakeside view and a row of amazing restaurants. We just picked one, and it was called Ristorante Luciano.
This was some of the yummy food that we had. Incredible... and so reasonably priced. (below left, spaghetti ala Trasimeno, right- fettucine ala funghi)
Poach sea perch with pomogrenate salad Fried seafood
Above left- fish stew Right- grilled pork cutlet
As usual, gelati for dessert....
